Finetuning our work on brief 1 - refining topic and areas of research
examined some historical definitions of what a game is - Huizinga, Caillois, Costikyan, Schell
came up with our own definitions prior to the activity
there are lots of definitions
it is important to have definitions because it influences how we approach problems
informs how we design games
It is important to keep in mind all the different ways in which games can be defined when designing, especially since play has evolved over the course of human history
It was really interesting to learn about some of the different ways that games are defined; I learned that it's actually pretty difficult to come up with a comprehensive definition that's specific enough to be useful but not so specific that it doesn't encompass non-digital games.

A game is an interactive piece of media that curates some kind of experience for the player.
