1. PLO Goals – reasons for attending

As the staff in charge of the transportation in the school, I wanted to attend the Transportation PLO in order to learn more and understand the guidelines surrounding pupil transportation.

Before going to the PLO, I was performing transportation tasks, with the help of different liaisons, but was facing many challenges. I thank Ms. Takor for inviting me and Mr. Kim, my principal for allowing me to go.

2. PLO Learnings

 Procedures: how to properly file a complaint in order to obtain needed results, how to obtain transportation for students who live in temporary housing, how to have specialized transportation accommodations approved

 Systems: how to use ATS to determine students’ eligibility and to know the status of transportation (MetroCard assigned for example)

 Management: using the Office of Pupil Transportation online ridership application

3. Implementation of Techniques and Practices

With a better understanding of the whys and hows of pupil transportation, I am able to explain to parents how transportation is put in place by OPT. Even though I do not handle MetroCards, I can explain some basic principles behind its distribution as well. I check my school ridership regularly and know who to contact for what.

4. Impact

Special education students have the specialized transportation accommodations they need. Families living in temporary housing have both shelter busing and MetroCards available for use. I organized a parent workshop from which families greatly benefited and have written letters of gratitude.

5. Conclusion

I benefited from the training, but students and parents benefited the most. At the workshop I organized at the school, their questions were answered and busing issues were resolved.

6. Next Steps

I am taking steps to be able to obtain stop-to-school busing for my school and plan on conducting other transportation workshops for parents and staff.1. PLO Goals – reasons for attending
