Personal Statement: I began my teaching career in the Bronx, teaching for 4 years at Urban Science Academy. While I was in the Bronx, I taught in a variety of classroom settings – self-contained, ICT, and SETTS. Fulfilling a dream of mine, I moved down to New Orleans for a year in 2016. During my time there, I taught middle school math. One year later, I returned back to New York City, joining the staff at Battery Park City School. As an undergraduate art major, I gained an important knowledge of the relationship between academia and art, while also enhancing my attention to detail and my ability to manage time wisely. After receiving an MA in Special Education (7-12), I used the combination of these two degrees to inform how I interact with my students and how to best help them find an approach that encourages them to succeed.
