Personal Statement: As an educator, I strongly believe that what truly matters is the genuine concern and dedication a teacher has, to make even a slight difference in a student’s life for him to become a better individual. Thus my professional approach to science education is anchored to the following pedagogical principles: promote meaningful student-centered learning experiences through inquiry-based models, provide and design relevant real-world lessons cognizant to cultural diversity, infuse instructional technology through web-based activities, analysis of real time data, multimedia and biotechnology, and lastly as a collaborative member of the professional learning communities that share best practices and support teachers’ growth. These teaching practices guide my students to become critical thinkers, problem solvers and scientifically literate members of our society. I graduated from St. Louise de Marillac College in 1997 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in Biology-Chemistry and graduated at Lehman College in 2013 with a degree in master’s in science major in Biology.
