Personal Statement: Throughout my 13 years as a math educator, I have had many different experiences. In addition to teaching in three high schools and one middle school in New York City, I taught in two secondary schools in England. My focus has always been on incorporating literacy into mathematics lessons in order to help students better make sense of and solve problems. A few years ago, as a Master Teacher for the website BetterLesson.com, I wrote a full year’s worth of geometry lessons aligned to the Common Core Geometry Standards. I was also part of the Geometry Standards Review Committee for the NYSED where I helped revise the current Common Core standards and was instrumental in developing glossary of terms associated with the new standards.
