Paraprofessional Train the Trainer: Level Two

PLO Learning:

Paraprofessional Train the Trainer: Level 2

The goal of the program is to provide the support, exchange ideas and acknowledge the work paraprofessionals are doing. Turn keying information; through power points, group discussion, and collecting/sharing strategies. That would support the development of our students. Creating dialogue around the work and the impact it’s having in the school community. To have a better understanding of the challenges and struggles students face. The challenges that educators face in working with students with different disabilities and needs.

Impact and DATA

We have had three Paraprofessionals receive ‘Paraprofessional Of The Year’ awards

We are able to teach into the strategies and model when facilitating. This helps not just the staff but also the students we work with. Our jobs as Paraprofessionals are not always easy. Train the Trainer has helped enhance how we work together as a community of educators. It makes me feel valued, as I build relationships and contribute to the learning and growth of my colleagues

The Facilitator program will build capacity in the schools by empowering Paraprofessionals facilitators to host weekly learning opportunities for the community

  • Each school will send representative to attend Monthly training session
  • It's up to each Facilitator to decide how to turn-key the information in their school
  • Facilitators are responsible for planning and creating their own;
  • Training schedule
  • Making copies
  • Finding a space to Present
  • Preparing Agenda’s
  • Taking attendance

(and anything that comes up or need to be done)

My Thoughts on the Program

We enjoy working with the entire school community. Beginning in a time, where, being a Paraprofessionals was more Exclusionary than Inclusionary. A lot has changed from then to now. In this current school year, we have learned a great deal more since 1.0. We have shared a great deal. The opportunity, allows for us to continue to grow!

Next Steps

-Each school will have all paraprofessionals attend the professional learning opportunities, provided by the paraprofessional facilitators in their schools.

-To better accommodate students:

- Technology Training

- Surveys to get better feedback

- To be a mentor to the next group of trainees
