PLO Goals:

The goals of the MFSC PLO’s workshops were to highlight a diversity of multiple perspectives, foster historical thinking skills, and integrate dynamic text sets to support the learning of all students. In addition, the sessions explored innovative and creative methods to apply the social studies practices and historical thinking skills based on the New York City Scope and Sequence to the units, lessons, and activities from the Passport to Social Studies curriculum.

PLO Learnings:

The PLO enhanced my instructional planning and practice by effectively utilizing the Passport to social studies curriculum and resources. Two areas, that are vital to students, were particularly useful: Geographic Reasoning and Comparison & Contextualization.

Integration of Techniques and Practices:

I integrated what I learned in the PLO to my instructional planning and practice by including geographic representations throughout instruction and utilizing graphic organizer tools.

Impact and Conclusion

The PLO allowed me to apply pedagogical skills to my planning and practice that supported student engagement. It also gave me the opportunity to implement the Passport to Social Studies curriculum with these resources, I facilitated several workshops with the Social Studies team at P.S./M.S. 57.
