Personal Statement: As a Highly Effective ENL teacher and ELL Coordinator, I have worked with diverse populations of students and have a strong belief in education as a means of social justice for underserved communities. After teaching for four years in the South Bronx, I decided to take a teaching position in the neighborhood I grew up in on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York. Additionally, I am a recent graduate of the Bank Street’s Principals Institute program. As an educator, I have displayed a strong commitment to realizing major academic gains with my students. I have a strong passion for progressive pedagogy, and keeping my students engaged, utilizing technology, and nurturing students’ leadership skills helped me successfully move ELL students towards proficiency in English. I have stayed flexible as an educator, staff developer, administrator, and coach for my fellow teachers.
