Personal Statement: Lydia Howrilka is a proud teacher of Global History, AP US Government, and various social justice electives. She has worked as an educator in schools, Community Based Organizations, and cultural organizations for the past six years. As a dedicated educator, Lydia’s philosophy of education grows from the seed of one philosophical approach:
that knowledge of the past and current affairs can help us grow as global citizens and agents of change. Lydia completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education at CUNY Hunter College. Lydia is presently working on her Master's thesis at CUNY Queens College which describes changes in due process for public school teachers from 1960 to 1980, focusing on the Brownsville teacher strikes in the late-1960s.
