Personal Statement: I have had the pleasure of working as an ENL Teacher at an elementary level for the past five years. My experiences in education have provided me with the opportunity to study with dedicated professors, mentors, administrators, and inspiring teachers. Working collaboratively in professional learning communities has allowed for me to learn from and exchange ideas with enthusiastic peers. Diverse academic experiences have provided me with a strong foundation, especially within a dynamic public school setting with the New York City Department of Education. As an ENL Teacher, I understand the benefit of collaboration to sustain a culture in which students, curriculum, and staff work like one. As a teacher, I focus on designing meaningful assessments, creating detailed portfolios, and differentiating to meet the diverse needs of English Language Learners. Finally, my educational pursuits learning with the Manhattan Field Support Center have taught me a number of useful and beneficial strategies to facilitate meaningful academic discourse and improve the quality of instruction I can provide for English Language Learners, as well as further solidified my belief in lifelong learning and continuing professional development. I believe that all children should be provided with an equitable and meaningful education. I want to inspire students to become intrinsically motivated learners that will develop into critical thinkers. I am grateful that my learning experiences have helped me to empower my students to develop their voices.
