PLO Goals: Passport Social Studies

The goal for the MFSC workshops was to investigate and explore the information, lessons, and projects included in the Passport to Social Studies curriculum. Additionally, I focused on how to incorporate pre-existing projects into Passport to create unique instruction that would provide enrichment opportunities for my students.

PLO Learnings: Bringing Social Studies to Life

Throughout the workshops, I spent time created unique instruction that incorporated the new lessons and activities from Passport. I also spent time creating or adapting pre-existing tasks to serve as culminating projects.

Integration of Technique

The way I organized my time spent at the workshops was by creating or adapting my unit plans and pacing guides.

· This is an example of a pacing guide for the second unit for 4th grade on the Native Americans of New York State.

Impact and Conclusion

Having the opportunity to explore the Passport curriculum has enhanced the teaching of social studies in my classroom. We have created numerous culminating projects by merging Passport and pre-existing activities. This has allowed us to incorporate the Project Based Learning method into our social studies instruction. Family connection was also addressed by inviting parents to join us to celebrate our culminating projects.

Next Steps

· Continue to develop culminating projects for all 4th grade social studies units.

· Create additional choices for the Native American unit.

Create professional learning opportunities for other staff members.
