A warm welcome back to term 3. We would like to extend a very special welcome to our new learners and their whānau who are joining our Junior Team this term. We would also like to welcome Ruth Bale and Pauline Howie who are joining the teaching team in Hub 5.
It has been great to have the learners back at school, and to catch up on their exciting holiday news. It sounds like they all enjoyed the break and are refreshed for the exciting term ahead.
Our term 2 concept about ‘Diversity’ was very engaging and a huge success. We would like to thank you for your support with helping your Hub 1 and 2 children prepare for their taonga presentations. We would also like to thank the whānau who took time out of their busy schedules to come in and talk to our learners about their culture and interests.
This term, we look forward to delving into our concept learning about ‘Community’. The learners in Hub 5 will be learning about our local community, and how we can all support one another. The learners in Hubs 1 and 2 will be looking at clubs and interest groups in our community, and they will be discussing the clubs they are passionate about and belong to. They will then move on to learning about the key components of a community, what they will need to set up their own unique community in space and what they will need in their community for survival.
We are eager to hear about any action your child might support you with in your local community e.g. helping a neighbour in need, donating toys etc to a charity group, raising money for a cause, helping out at church or other religious centres, being involved in a food drive. If you and your child are involved in any kind of community action, please ask your child to share this with their hub.
Our learners performed with so much confidence and pride at our Matariki Festival.
Thank you to the whānau who helped with the festival, and to those who participated in our Matariki Hīkoi. The hīkoi was a fantastic way to start the last day of the term and it was nice to see many eager learners walking up Maungarei (Mount Wellington) so early in the morning. The learners were really engaged in our learning about Matariki. They listened to and responded to the story of the nine stars, and were immersed in a variety of Matariki activities. It was a wonderful way to end term 2.
