Update 10

1st July 2021

Kia ora e te whānau

Tēnā Koutou Katoa,

Today we celebrated Matariki with our Kapa Haka Festival, and what a beautiful day it's been!

We had over 300 children from Glen Taylor, Kohia Terrace, Newmarket, Kohimarama, Saint Thomas’s and Ōrākei schools performing, as well as our own 150-strong Kapa Haka group. Our children were thrilled to watch the variety of performance and each school showcasing their own identity.

A huge well done to our learners on an outstanding performance; you all made Stonefields very proud! A big thank you also to our Kapa Haka tutors, whānau and everyone who pitched in to make today a huge success.

Ngā mihi nui,

Sarah and The Stonefields School Team

Consultation on proposed enrolment scheme amendment

The Board of Stonefields School is working with the Ministry of Education to amend our Enrolment Scheme. The proposed amendment extends our zone westward to include the currently unzoned area bounded by Merton Road, Morrin Road, and the railway line.
Any student currently enrolled and attending our school will not be impacted by the change and will be entitled to continue attending the school irrespective of where they currently live.

Consultation will run from Wednesday 30th June, until Friday 13 August. The Ministry will consider all feedback and liaise with the Board before making a final decision. We expect the School community to be updated about progress made in Term 3. The new schemes and changes will come into effect for the beginning of 2022.

Data on a Page: Progress & achievement

Stonefields School is a community that learns and strives to continually improve.

Since inception, data and evidence has been gathered to inform decision making and our strategic direction. A breadth of information has been analysed over time including surveys, achievement data, progressions, whānau voice, and a growing range of tools developed internally.

We are excited to be able to share this data with you here.

Mid Year Achievement and Progress

We are close to sharing your child’s mid-year achievement snapshot through SchoolTalk. On Wednesday, July 7th, you will be sent an email with a link to your child's mid-year achievement snapshot.

For this reporting round you can expect to see a general comment from the hub teachers, which will give a description of how your child is progressing, their attitude towards learning, and their social development. Click here for further detail on what you can expect to see in your child's mid-year achievement snapshot.

Adult Kapa Haka

Our adult Kapa Haka kicked off last week and it was awesome! Sessions will be run fortnightly during term time, Tuesdays from 5.30pm. As this is a community initiative, we are looking to get a parent working group together to take charge of some of the logistics involved. Please contact Bryan Fox if you are keen to help out!

Workshop: Surface & Deeper Features in Writing

Tuesday 6th July, 3.15-4.00pm
Parents will be shown what to look for in terms of surface and deeper featuers in writing. Suitable for parents of learners in years 5-8.

Zones of Regulation Workshop

Due to significant interest in the Zones of Regulation workshop run earlier this week, we will be holding another one of these workshops in term 3. This will likely be an evening session to allow those to attend who were unable to make it this week. Watch this space!

Kaupapa Māori at Stonefields School

We're excited to launch our new Kaupapa Māori at Stonefields website. This is where you will find everything you need to know about our Pōwhiri - waiata (songs), Te Reo Māori in Hubs, Te Puāwaitanga and Kapa Haka.

Stay home if you're unwell

The chilly (and wet!) weather has brought with it many coughs and sniffly noses. A gentle reminder that we are still at Covid Alert Level 1. As per Ministry of Health Guidelines, please keep your children at home if they are feeling unwell, or show any signs of a cold or flu.

Covid Tracer App

Please remember to scan in using your Covid tracer app when entering the school. Together we can all do our part to keep our whānau and community safe.

The faster people who might have been exposed to COVID-19 can be contacted, the faster we can stop the spread of the virus.

Student-led Initiatives

Food Drive - Please donate any sealed, canned or packet food to help those in need!

There is a big box at the office where you can drop in your items - this will be there until next week Wednesday, 7th July.

Upcoming Events

  • School Disco | Friday, 2nd July | 5:30 - 6:45 (Juniors) & 7:15 - 8:45 (Seniors)

Sport

Eastern Zones Hockey

A huge well done to our girls who took part in the EZ Hockey tournament on Monday. All of the cold, early morning practices paid off as the team breezed through their pool and into the semi finals. Our girls finished 4th after very exciting and close semi final and third place play off games. We're delighted to see hockey growing at Stonefields, and this wouldn't be possible without the time and energy of our passionate hockey players and our parent volunteers, Merrin and Rakesh. Tēnā rawa atu koutou.

Our Sports Website is your first port of call for all information about whole school sport and inter-school sports events. This is updated regularly.

Library

As the end of term approaches, we are following up on overdue books that have been on issue for some time. This week, our library system will automatically email all parents of learners whom our system identifies as having overdue books.

Please help ensure your child returns their book/s to the red returns box inside the school library by the end of this term. This gives others the chance to enjoy them, and allows your child to issue new books for the school holidays should they wish.

Our library is open every day during lunchtime. We encourage our learners to issue and return their books then, or when visiting the library with their literacy groups.

Mistakes do happen and our system isn't perfect! If you/your child are certain books have been issued in error or have already been returned, please email anna.malan@stonefields.school.nz as soon as possible.
