A warm welcome to all our Year 5 and 6 whānau. We hope the summer has brought joy and a much needed break. The Year 5 and 6 teaching team are especially excited to get back into the swing of things and design learning that will spark enjoyment and create memories.
Our concept theme will grow to understand of kaitiakitanga (guardianship of our world) and empower learners to make decisions and take action.
We have started our learning through exploring the themes in the two books 'The Lorax' and 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. These texts have inspired conversations about solving problems within our school environment. Learners have calculated the value of the resources in their hubs and have investigated 'hotspots' in school where we can be kaitiaki and solve problems. We will then use our knowledge to take action and see outcomes that will benefit the wider community.
He waka eke noa.
We would like to sincerely thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to connect with us prior to the Term 1 start date. The rich opportunity to hear your voice and learn more about your child has allowed us to truly live our school value of bringing our best together.
If you were unable to attend, we would love to catch up with you in the next couple of weeks either face to face, online or over the phone.
We value the home/school partnership and would like to remind you that our door is always open to continue or start new conversations. Teachers are available in the hub from 8:30am till 9:00am daily.
For any questions, concerns or updates, please feel free to pop in or contact us via email:

There is an opportunity on Tuesday, 23rd February for you to meet your child's whole teaching team and find out more about the Year 3 and 4 village within the larger Stonefields village. This will take place from 3.20pm until 4.00pm and will be available both in-person and virtually.
Please save the date. Virtual links to follow.
The parent dashboard on SchoolTalk is a great place to find out what your child is learning and their next steps.
If you need any support accessing or understanding what SchoolTalk can offer, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's hub teachers.
SchoolTalk is an amazing tool, but we understand how it can sometimes be difficult to find what you are looking for.
From next week, we have created an event after school that will direct you towards websites and resources that will support home learning.
Tools such as Read Theory and Mōhio are great to support with and revising basic skills. We also recommend sites such as Education Perfect, Get Epic, Study Ladder and Khan Academy to support learning at home.
We also appreciate home support with practising spelling, handwriting and times tables.
Later on in the year, we will be putting these skills to the test in the first ever Stonefields Knowledgeathon! More information to follow soon.
Throughout the year we engage in a number of learning opportunities in our local area (eg. swimming at CLM / Kohimarama Beach, trips to the Wetlands). This form gives permission for your child to take part in activities during school time within a 7.5km radius for the duration of their time at Stonefields School.
Please click here to complete the permission form.
Year 5 and 6 have identified litter hotspots in the playground as part of their kaitiakitanga inquiry. We politely remind every member of the Stonefields School community that we are an Enviro School and we aim to minimise the quantity of waste that we produce. Learners are encouraged to keep food wrappers and waste in lunch boxes and take them home.
Due to health and safety concerns we are also discouraging learners from bringing food that needs to be reheated, we do however encourage the use of food thermoses that keep meals warm or cold at food-safe temperatures without the aid of microwaves.
As always, we love having your support within the hub. If you are available to offer your time in any of the following areas could you please let us know:
Reading
Spelling
Math games
Break Through
Laminating & cutting resources
We value any time that you can spare.
