Tēnā Koutou Katoa,
It was fantastic to see so many of you last night at Dr. Tony Fernando's inspirational talk 'Knowing Happiness through Suffering'. It was an amazing evening of learning and community that left everyone buzzing! We look forward to welcoming you at many future events in Te Pātaka Ako (Community Hub).
Don't forget that next week is a short week for our learners as Friday 25th June is a Teacher Only Day.
Ngā mihi nui,
Sarah and The Stonefields School Team
The Stonefield School whānau continues to grow! This week we welcomed Laura Julian to our team of wonderful Teacher Aides, along with Sacha Lowe who has joined the Admin team in a part-time capacity as Grant Applications Administrator.
When: Friday 2nd July 2021
Where: School Hall
Junior Disco: 5.30m - 6.45pm
Senior Disco: 7.15pm - 8.45pm
Please note:
We will also be hosting a Parents/Caregivers room in The Community Hub and will have tea and coffee for you to enjoy. This is a great spot to base yourself, should you feel that your child may need your support during the disco.
For the Junior Disco we will have junior hub teachers present to support the learners as they arrive.
For health and safety reasons we ask that parents refrain from entering the hall.
Volunteer Support:
These memorable events rely on our wonderful community of parent/ caregiver/ teacher volunteers. Find out how you can contribute (be it big or small) by completing this short form.
You can find a full schedule of all of our upcoming events in the Community Hub - Te Te Pātaka Ako here
Starting next Tuesday, 22 June! We would love for you to join us in learning a couple of waiata (song), waiata-a-ringa (action song), and haka. Classes will kick off at 5:30pm and all are welcome. Bring the tamariki (children) along, they can join in too! We'll be providing pizza for our first lesson, so please let us know if you plan on coming along by filling out this form.
We extend a warm invitation to all our Chinese families to join us for a coffee & conversation on Wednesday 30 June from 6.30-7.30 in the Community Hub - Te Pātaka Ako.
We will be hosting the Matariki Kapa Haka festival on Thursday 1 July from 9-2pm in the school hall. Further details will be sent to the families with learners in kapa haka group.
We're excited to launch our new Kaupapa Māori at Stonefields website. This is where you will find everything you need to know about our Pōwhiri - waiata (songs), Te Reo Māori in Hubs, Te Puāwaitanga and Kapa Haka.
We've seen a few non-uniform jackets and jumpers sneak their way into school over the past couple of weeks. At Stonefields we wear our uniform with pride - please ensure that your child is wearing correct uniform items to school only. You can purchase these here.
The chilly (and wet!) weather has brought with it many coughs and sniffly noses. A gentle reminder that we are still at Covid Alert Level 1. As per Ministry of Health Guidelines, please keep your children at home if they are feeling unwell, or show any signs of a cold or flu.
As we head into mid year snapshot reporting, we wanted to let you know that the visual way we show progress has changed. You will still be informed of whether your child is working towards, working within or above the expected curriculum level in reading, writing maths.
The mid year progress and achievement snapshot will include;
Reading, Writing, Maths achievement,
Your child’s next steps in Reading, Writing and Maths
Your child’s learner qualities achievement
Teacher comment.
The progress over time graph (worm graph) will not be visible for 2021 reporting. We are currently working with the developers, teachers and some parents to improve how we report to parents and visually represent a child's progress and achievements more clearly. We are working towards sharing a much more holistic view of your child's learning in both curriculum and capability areas, like collaboration. We are excited about the development roadmap ahead.
You will receive your child’s mid year report on Wednesday 7th July via email. The report will be attached as a PDF link.
We encourage you to access learning resources within SchoolTalk related to your child’s next steps. You might also like to access the new website we launched earlier this year with material parents can use at home to support their child’s learning. We encourage parents to support the building of basic fact knowledge, spelling words and sight words. Click here to access the site if you have not already done so.

Volleyball has become one of the most popular events in the Tamaki Sports calendar and it has been really exciting to see the skill level growing each year. Our 4 teams had a fantastic day with brilliant performances all round.
Well done to our Year 8 boys who took part in the Eastern Zones Football Tournament. Our team faced some tough opponents through the group stage but brought their best together with determined performances. The boys were rewarded for their efforts with some fantastic team goals.
As always, a big thank you to our whānau who helped and supported us at these events!
We'd also like to thank our wonderful Netball volunteers - we so appreciate your time and energy. We now have a massive 12 teams, and we would be lost without your support!
Auckland Table Tennis Primary Competition on Wednesdays. More information here.
We are collecting Expressions of Interest for a couple of extra curricular sports opportunities. These are parent run and will only go ahead if there is enough interest:
Flippaball on Sunday afternoons for Yr 3 - 8. More information here.
Basketball on Wednesdays for Yr 5 - 8. More information here.
We are looking for a new parent coordinator for the Yummy Fruit Stickers for Schools promotion. Each year schools collect stickers which can be exchanged for sports gear. This is a great opportunity to get more equipment for our learners to use in the playground and in PE.
The parent coordinator collates the stickers at the end of term 3 and sends a couple of reminders to the community during the year via the Communication Update.
If you would like to help with this please email lynnk@stonefields.school.nz.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Diane who has organised this for the last few years.
Our Sports Website is your first port of call for all information about whole school sport and inter-school sports events. This is updated regularly.
