Tēnā Koutou Katoa,
Term 2 is in full swing and it is so great to see the school full of energy and smiling faces. Tomorrow we'll be wrapping up the week with Pink Shirt Day, inviting our learners to wear pink (māwhero) to take a stand against bullying and celebrate diversity in our community.
We're excited to share the launch of our new Community Hub - Te Pātaka Ako as well as some brilliant student led initiatives.
Ngā mihi nui,
Sarah and The Stonefields School Team
Tomorrow, Friday 21st May, is Pink Shirt Day! Pink Shirt Day aims to reduce bullying in Aotearoa by celebrating diversity in all its forms and supporting workplaces, communities and schools to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive of all people. This links brilliantly with our current learning focus "Diversity".
To Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora - Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying - we are inviting our learners to wear pink (māwhero) to celebrate the day.
Our year 7-8 learners will be building our junior schools awareness of Pink Shirt day and visiting the hubs to promote messages about being a good friend and what the School strategies are when faced with conflict.
By celebrating Pink Shirt Day and raising money to support the kaupapa, Stonefields School is part of a powerful movement to spread aroha and kindness and end bullying. Every dollar raised helps the Mental Health Foundation to run Pink Shirt Day, raise awareness about bullying prevention and provide free resources to help make our schools safe and inclusive for everyone. Bullying isn't limited to school and also occurs in the workplace, so we encourage parents to get involved in this worthy cause too!
Here's what you need to do on Friday 21st May:
Bring a gold coin donation to hand in to your teachers
This will go towards the Mental Health Foundation
Wear a Pink shirt or anything else that is pink. We encourage boys to wear pink too.
Be aware of why we are wearing pink on this day
Remember that bullying is not acceptable in any form
Always be kind to people
Please note, we certainly don’t want this to create any stress within your household if you don’t have anything pink. We don’t want you to go to any unnecessary expense. We will have pink paper and other materials available for learners to create something pink to put on their uniform.
Learner Led Conferences (LLC) is an opportunity for you to be led by your child to understand what they are learning, how they are going and what their next learning steps are. During the 60 minute conference, a Hub teacher will share a 10 minute progress update with you and your child. Some new ideas and experiences are being included to ensure it is a valuable learning experience for you and your child.

From 2021 the Education Review Office has introduced a new Evaluation for Improvement approach that will continue to be developed throughout 2021 and into 2022. This new approach will see the ERO work differently with each school/kura according to its context, culture and needs. There are five phases in the Evaluation for Improvement process, covering preparing for and doing the evaluation, then reporting and using the evaluation findings:
Initiating: an ERO evaluator will meet with key people at Stonefields school to start to get to know its context and culture, and have a conversation about what the evaluation will involve.
Exploring and focusing: ERO and Stonefields school jointly will decide on a focus for the evaluation and work in collaboration with people from the school and community to explore and discuss what you know about what is happening for learners/ākonga; plans and priorities, and the review and evaluation activities that contribute to improvement decisions and actions
Designing: ERO and Stonefields school work collaboratively to design an evaluation that best fits the context, culture and needs of your school, your strengths and the evaluation focus. The design will include what questions we will ask, what activities and sources of information will be needed to answer the questions, the timeframes and who will be involved.
Evaluating for improvement: The people involved will gather information from as many different sources as needed. Then they will discuss and make sense of the information using the evaluation indicators, to decide the evaluation findings.
Reporting and planning: In this phase ERO will assist Stonefields school to use the evaluation findings to decide and plan our improvement actions and timeframes. At the end of the improvement timeframes, we will work together with ERO to sum up how well things are going, what has improved for learners/ākonga, and what further actions might be needed.

The suburb of Stonefields operates a naked streets policy. This means that there are limited signs and road markings indicating the parking restrictions etc. We ask everyone to please put the safety of all learners first and where possible park further away from the school and walk in to drop off or collect your children.
Please show consideration when parking vehicles at pick up and drop off times. Traffic must be allowed to flow freely (yet cautiously) through the streets. Please be mindful of the signs on both Guyon Street and Vialou Lane as there are no parking zones at peak times of the school day to help ease the flow.
The School has adopted a policy of travelling anti clockwise around the school to help alleviate congestion. We ask for your support with this.
All parents / caregivers and visitors to the school are not to use or park in the private driveways and lanes of our neighbours properties at any time.
The school car park is for staff only and is not able to accommodate parent parking. Cars coming and going through the car park are a danger to children who may walk through here to gain access to the school.
Please ensure that anyone dropping off or picking up your child is aware of the parking concerns relating to this area.
The Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Vaping) Amendment Act 2020 commenced in November last year, amending the Smokefree Environments Act 1990 and renaming it to the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990. Changes to the Act are being phased out over 15 months. You can find further information on these changes here.
As of 11 November 2020, the prohibition on smoking at schools was extended to include vaping and as of this month we are displaying our new 'no vaping' signage on school grounds.
Our delicious school honey is now available to purchase for $15 a jar. Pop into the school office or Friday afternoon cafe to grab yours. Big congratulations also to our wonderful label designers for making our honey jars look fantastic!
If we are able to assist with Road Patrol before (8.30am - 8.55am) or after school (2.55pm - 3.10pm) we would love to hear from you. Road Patrol runs from Monday - Friday.
Please complete this short form to let us know your availability and we will be in touch.
Dear parents/guardians,
Kia ora, we are a group of intermediate learners and are hosting a bake sale to fundraise some money to go to the Saving Hope Foundation.
Saving Hope Foundation is an organisation that saves dogs and puppies from the streets so they can go to better homes. They are currently low on equipment and money for looking after the puppies until they find a good home. All money raised at our bake sale would go towards Saving Hope Foundation’s new equipment.
Our bake sale will be on the Tuesday 25th of May, in front of the school hall at 1:10pm. All the baking will be from $1-$5 and there will be gluten free and vegan baking available for those who would like to buy these types of baked goods.
Kia Ora All,
We are a group of Year 7 learners from Hubs 14 and 15.
Currently, we are undertaking a sustainability project with an organisation called Terracycle.
Terracycle is a company that recycles old oral care products such as old toothbrushes, toothpaste caps, toothpaste tubes, empty floss containers and mouthwash bottles, which reduces the impact on our landfills. However, they do not take toothpaste boxes or electric toothbrushes since these items can’t be repurposed.
There are Terracycle collection boxes in every hub to drop off your old oral care products before the 18th June. We would love to encourage you and your families to do your part for the environment and start recycling these items today!
Thank you for your support.
In Term 1, we decided to organise a book drive as our breakthrough project. Our purpose is to share the passion for reading to other learners who might not have the resources. After selecting the best quality books, we ended up with 309 books that we delivered to Ruapotaka School.
We hope the new owners enjoy their books!
Another breakthrough project was led by Ciara. Each of our hubs now have small compost bins and we are looking forward to our school reducing food waste together!

Tamaki Football
We were excited to have 91 learners represent Stonefields at the Tamaki Football Tournament yesterday. It was great to see over 50 teams from our local schools taking part, including a record number of girls.
A huge well done to all of our learners for giving us plenty to cheer about on and off the field throughout the day!
We really couldn't have done this without our wonderful parents support; a sincere thank you again to those who helped and supported us at the event.
We're very excited that our new basketball hoops have arrived and are now installed on the courts! Check them out below.
Our Sports Website is your first port of call for all information about whole school sport and inter-school sports events. This is updated regularly.
