Alert Level 4:
Community Update

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

Following this afternoon's Government announcement, Auckland will continue to remain in Alert Level 4 until 11.59pm, Tuesday 31 August.

We are proud of the way distance learning has begun. We are well set up to deliver quality distance learning through using SchoolTalk. It has been wonderful to see learners in the Google hangouts, sharing their learning through padlets and hearing the successes through staff meetings.

Attendance Stats - something to shout about!

Each day our teachers and support staff monitor who they have seen online in workshops and mark our 'distance learning' attendance tool. We are super pleased with the attendance so far! A huge shout out to our whole community for transitioning so successfully from physical school to distance learning.

  • Day 1 - Thursday last week we had an average 85.5% attendance across the whole school.

  • Day 2 - Friday average attendance was 89.7%

  • Today we averaged 91%

Getting devices to your homes

  • Years 3-8

We delivered 55 devices to year 3-8 learners homes on Friday.
If your child still has 'no access' or 'partial access' to a device, please email your child's hub teacher so they can update our database, and we can help to find a solution for you.

  • Years 0-2

We have deployed over 35 ipads this afternoon to year 0-2 families who have no access or partial access.
If your child still has 'no access' or 'partial access' to a device, please email your child's hub teacher so they can update our database, and we can help to find a solution for you.

Distance Learning Resources

  • First - SchoolTalk is the first place to go to find what has been specifically designed for your child. Remember red (stop and come to the learning) highlights the most important learning for your child, green is further learning that supports your child's learning and progress. Then the last part of the day is full of what we call other learning opportunities. Further details can be found on Distance Learning philosophy and guidelines for parents.

  • Second - your main go-to place to access helpful resources and ideas to support your child's distance learning is the SS Covid site for Whānau. These resources complement the learning that is designed for your child in SchoolTalk.

    • The Resources page has links to weekly challenges, distance learning booklets, Home School TV, Knowledge Builder digital cards (ideas for using the cards at home), MOE learning site etc.

    • Wellbeing - ideas, articles and parenting support

  • Third - Hard copy resources (currently being printed)

    • Knowledge Builder Card Packs

Our 14 Knowledge Builder card packs were designed to be our hard copy solution, in case of lockdown. We can confirm that printing will resume this week. We are hoping to receive further information from the MOE about onsite collection. Currently no parents/caregivers are allowed onsite. We will keep you informed of any changes.

  • Hardcopy Packs years 0-2

Over the weekend we sent to the printer a further series of hardcopy packs in literacy and numeracy for years 0-2. These have been created to supplement the learning our teachers are designing and sharing with you through SchoolTalk. Like the Knowledge Builder packs of cards, these will be ready to distribute once people are allowed on site.

Digital copies if the Knowledge Builder card packs and previous distance learning booklets can be found here.

Something else the team has been creating are ideas to support you using the card packs at home. These have been added to the Covid resource
site today.

No-one allowed on site - playgrounds are closed

A big thank you for taking the lockdown seriously and doing what we have been asked – we’ve seen before that staying at home will break the chain of transmission and save lives. It is even more important that we all follow the health advice because the Delta variant is very contagious.

Breaking the rules risks the health of those close to you, the wider community and could result in the lock down period being extended.

Please remember that the school, playground and school grounds remain closed at Alert Level 4.
