Tēnā Koutou Katoa,
A warm welcome to the start of the 2021 school year. It certainly has been an amazing summer. We hope you've all had some time to unwind and recharge. The junior team teachers would like to welcome you all back. We are all very excited to see the learners back in full swing for their learning.
Our concept theme will grow understanding of kaitiakitanga and empower learners to make decisions and take action. Kaitiakitanga refers to guardianship of resources and the land.
We would like our learners to make visible improvements in being kaitiaki (a gaurdian or a trustee) for the environment both inside and outside. It would also be wonderful if you could keep the conversations of how we can all being Kaitiaki or our belongings and land.
There will be a big focus on increasing kaitiaki and care for school resources, and learners belongings to help our learners gain a bigger understanding and have strategies to be Kaitiaki.
Yes, it's that time again, you will probably all be in the swing of routine again, including lunch making. Please ensure your child has a selection of healthy food in their lunch boxes; fruit and vegetables. Also, enough lunch for morning tea and lunch. Please ensure your child's lunchbox is named, to avoid lost lunchboxes.
In the summer lunch boxes can get hot, you may want an ice pack kept inside their containers or bags.
Learners will bring their rubbish home after lunch eating, this is part of the learning about being Kaitiaki of our school environment.
Please note we also have some learners who are allergic to nuts. It would be appreciated if you could please consider this when preparing lunches.
When coming onto the school premises please remember to use the contact trace using the MoH QR code.
Please ensure your child has a named and identifiable school hat. Is a good idea to have a badge of some sort that is sewn onto your child's hat so they can quickly identify their hat.
We will continue with hand washing before eating and sanitising when required. It can be a good idea to keep a spare pair of clothes in your child's bag in case they get dirty and need changing.
We'd like to continue our learners having a ‘brainfood snack’, which learners will eat around 10am. This is optional, not compulsory. It gives our learners an opportunity to have a quick snack while they are learning.
For this to work, and not compromise learning time. We are asking for learners to bring in a vegetable or piece of fruit which is preferably sliced or peeled, wrapped separately or in a container, which is named.
Learners will bring it into the hub before school along with their book bag and be placed in a labeled container. There will be several containers labelled for easy access. We will make arrangements for any learner with allergies
We would like to sincerely thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to connect with us prior to the Term 1 start date.
We value the home/school partnership and would like to remind you that our door is always open to continue or start new conversations.
If you have any questions or concerns and need a longer time to meet with us, please feel free to contact us to make a scheduled time to connect.
He waka eke noa.
There is an opportunity on Wednesday, 24th February for you to meet your child's whole teaching team and find out more about the Year 0-2 (Hubs 1,2 and 5) village within the larger Stonefields village. This will take place from 3.20pm until 4.00pm and will be available both in-person and virtually.
Please save the date. Virtual links to follow.
SchoolTalk is an amazing tool, which enables the learning to be visible and transparent. This app allows you to access and see your child's learning, progressions and next steps.
We would like to continue to support you with utilising the functionalities of School Talk from next week, we have created an event after school that will direct you towards websites and resources that will support home learning. It will support your child's next learning steps.
We appreciate home support with practising sight word spelling, handwriting and basic facts.
We always welcome and appreciate parent help in our hubs. There are a range of jobs that we'd like support with from sharpening pencils, laminating, cutting, putting home readers away to providing extra reading support in the hub. We understand that this doesn't suit everyone, however, if you have any spare time do do some of these jobs please email the hub teachers to let them know what hours and what tasks you are available to do. Thank you.
Later this term we will be holding a Reading workshop during the day which is aimed at helping parents/whānau to provide effective support for their children's reading (and thereby also supports teachers in their classroom programmes).
The programme has been shown to raise children's reading achievement in a significant and sustained manner and to improve relationships between children and parents, and between parents and teachers. The date for this will be Thursday the 25th of March, time TBC. More information will follow and dates/times will be added into the parent calendar.
We will be holding a day of team building, physical challenges and other learning that is curriculum-based teaching and learning which extends beyond the classroom walls. The date for this is Wednesday the 31st of March. More information will follow.
