Being Learning Ready - Series 2

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation uses four colours to help children self-identify how they’re feeling and categorise it based on colour.

The curriculum also helps children better understand their emotions, sensory needs, and thinking patterns.

They learn different strategies to help them cope and manage their emotions based on which colour zone they’re in.

Additionally, the Zones of Regulation helps children recognize their own triggers, learn to read facial expressions, develop problem-solving skills, and become more attuned to how their actions affect other people

Staff Farewell

After much consideration and for personal reasons, Lauren Wessels has made the important decision to leave her role at Stonefields School to support their family business.

Although a tough decision to make, Lauren has made the right call.

She is so loved by all and has been a phenomenal Administration Leader, colleague and friend.

Lauren's last day is Wednesday, 7th April, we are currently interviewing for the role and as soon as an appointment is made, we will share this with you.

Student Initiatives

Kia ora,

We are Year 7 students in Hubs 14 and 15, doing a fundraiser for Terracycle.

Terracycle is a company that recycles oral care products like, old toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes or caps, floss containers, and mouthwash bottles.

We would like to encourage everyone to bring in any of the above oral care items. Please note, we do not take electric toothbrushes or toothpaste boxes.

We will be starting this project is Tuesday, 30th of March - There will be collection boxes in every Hub.

We would love for everyone to help out with our environment, thank you for all your support.

Sport

T10 Cricket

Well done to all of our teams who took part in the Auckland T10 Cricket Tournament. It was great to be able to take 3 boys and 3 girls teams (over 1/3 of our Yr 7/8's) to the tournament. A huge thank you to our whānau who helped make that possible.

A special mention to our boys team who were unbeaten all day, a great achievement! Ka rawe!

Flippa Ball

In 2019/2020 Stonefields' first Flippa Ball teams were created and we've had quite a bit of interest to see the teams start up again this year. Flippa Ball is a junior form of Water Polo, it's a fun, team sport and a great way to develop water skills and confidence. More information can be found on our Sports Website here.

Local Sports Opportunities

There is information on our sports website here about the following upcoming opportunities at local sports clubs:

  • Mt Eden Hockey Club - Years 1- 8

  • AUFRC Junior Rugby - Years 1 - 8

Nathan Wallis | Developing the Brain

In his presentation, Nathan provides an informative narrative on how our day-to-day interactions with children and young people, significantly the early years, plays a critical role in defining later outcomes for our children. In this talk, Nathan will guide you through the stages of brain development from the first 1000 days and into adulthood. He will reveal little tricks that will hopefully make parenting easier, and help you open up communication with your child. You will walk away with a much better understanding of how both your child’s brain and your own brain works.

Traffic Safety

The suburb of Stonefields operates a naked streets policy. This means that there are limited signs and road markings indicating the parking restrictions etc. We ask everyone to please put the safety of all learners first.

Please be mindful of the signs on both Guyon Street and Vialou Lane as there are no parking zones at peak times of the school day to help ease the flow. The school has adopted a policy of travelling anti-clockwise around the school to help alleviate congestion. We ask for your support with this.

  • We encourage sustainable methods of getting to and from school. Walking, biking, scooting.

  • All learners, especially those using Guyon Street or Tihi Street entrance/exits are urged to cross at the pedestrian crossing.

  • When dropping off or collecting your child/ren, please park on the school side of the road to alleviate learners from having to cross the road and please do not stop in the middle of the road to drop off or collect your child/ren.
