Tēnā Koutou Katoa,
A warm welcome to Term 2. We do hope you had a fun and restful holiday. A special welcome to our new families and members of staff.
The start of term Pōwhiri held on Tuesday, 3rd May was a wonderful way to commence the term. We were very proud of the learners who spoke in Te Reo Māori, thank you Jack, Cooper and Sofia you made us all proud.
We are excited about the learning designed for the term ahead focussed on Diversity. You will receive more information about this through the Hub Village comms coming soon. Episode 5 of Stonefields School TV has been shared with your children and has a motivating and uplifting message not to miss.
Ngā mihi nui,
Sarah and The Stonefields School Team
We are excited to share the new and revised Learning Process with you. It is being introduced to your children this term. Children are currently comparing the new process with the previous one to explore and identify what has changed. We have a week of fun activities and learning experiences planned to launch the new process.
What is the Learning Process?
The learning process helps learners investigate, problem-solve, make informed decisions, and advance their learning. It steps them through three key stages of learning - Build Knowledge, Make Meaning and Apply Understanding. Doing so aims to demystify the learning process, helping learners know what to do next. We teach specific thinking skills to draw upon at each of the three stages.
Why do we have a Learning Process?
What do you do when you don’t know the answer to a question or are faced with a problem you are trying to solve at home or work? What is the process you work through, what thinking are you involved in - comparing, analysing or some other kind of thinking?
Research, complimented by a decade of experience has shown us the power of having a shared language of learning (The learning process, learner qualities and learning pit) help children learn. Being able to navigate the unknown, ‘to know what to do when you don’t know what to do’ is an essential disposition to acquire in changing times.
How can you help at home?
We encourage you to talk about the thinking skills you use when solving a problem or investigating something you want to learn. What thinking skills do you use to ensure you make great decisions?

Staff Farewell
We are sad to share that Nicole Walsh will be returning home to the USA on Friday, 21st May to be close to family. We would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank Nicole for her service over the last two years to those she has taught, her colleagues and the Stonefields Community as a whole. Nicole will certainly be missed by everyone.
We have secured an excellent replacement for Nicole. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce and welcome Jennifer Noone. Jennifer originally trained in New Zealand and is currently teaching in the UK and is excited to be returning to New Zealand.
New Staff Appointments
We wish to congratulate and welcome Sarah Furst-Jaeger as the new Administration Leader. Sarah leads the team of:
Receptionist/Learner Services - Sue Curlett
Finance - Amy Tran
We welcome Sarah Ketley to the administration team, Sarah will oversee all school resources as well as support front of house in the school office.
We would also like to welcome Rachel Rambisheswar (Student Support Administration) and Emma Lockington (Teacher Aide) to our growing Student Support Team.
The suburb of Stonefields operates a naked streets policy. This means that there are limited signs and road markings indicating the parking restrictions etc. We ask everyone to please put the safety of all learners first and where possible park further away from the school and walk in to drop off or collect your children.
Please show consideration when parking vehicles at pick up and drop off times. Traffic must be allowed to flow freely (yet cautiously) through the streets. Please be mindful of the signs on both Guyon Street and Vialou Lane as there are no parking zones at peak times of the school day to help ease the flow.
The School has adopted a policy of travelling anti clockwise around the school to help alleviate congestion. We ask for your support with this.
All parents / caregivers and visitors to the school are not to use or park in the private driveways and lanes of our neighbours properties at any time.
The school car park is for staff only and is not able to accommodate parent parking. Cars coming and going through the car park are a danger to children who may walk through here to gain access to the school.
Please ensure that anyone dropping off or picking up your child is aware of the parking concerns relating to this area.
If we are able to assist with Road Patrol before (8.30am - 8.55am) or after school (2.55pm - 3.10pm) we would love to hear from you. Road Patrol runs from Monday - Friday.
Please complete this short form to let us know your availability and we will be in touch.
As you will have seen the project to completely fence the school is still underway and at the moment we have a temporary solution down the Guyon Street side of our site. After a few delays this work is planned to recommence in the next couple of weeks.
It is vitally important for the school office to have your most up to date details on record.
If any of your personal details (address, contact number etc) or learner medical details have changed, please complete this form

We were delighted to take 3 teams to the Quikhit Girls Cricket Tournament for the first time last term. A huge congratulations to our girls who, across the 3 teams, won 8 out of 9 games! It was great to watch their confidence, skills and enthusiasm grow throughout the day and translate into great teamwork, terrific batting and brilliant bowling. Ka rawe!
As always, a heartfelt thank you to our whānau and Michelle from AUCC who helped and supported on the day.
In 2019/2020 Stonefields' first Flippa Ball teams were created and we've had quite a bit of interest to see the teams start up again this year. Flippa Ball is a junior form of Water Polo, it's a fun, team sport and a great way to develop water skills and confidence. More information can be found on our Sports Website here
We love drawing on the passions and expertise of our community so if you would like to get involved with sports this year please complete the volunteer form on our website here. Sports at Stonefields is growing and we are dependent on volunteers to continue to provide these fantastic opportunities for our learners.
The Eastern Suburbs Primary and Intermediate Schools' Gymnastics competitions take place in Term 3. The top gymnasts from these competitions then progress to the Auckland Champs. We are fortunate this year to be partnering with Eastern Suburbs Gymnastics Club to provide some free training sessions for learners who are keen to give gymnastics a go. Spaces for this are limited. Please see our Sports website here for more information: Primary (Yr 3 - 6) and Intermediate (Yr 7 - 8).
A couple of our netball teams require another player or two. If your child is in Year 4 or Year 8 and is interested in playing netball this year please email netball@stonefields.school.nz ASAP.
We have purchased new basketball hoops to replace the existing hoops on the courts. There has been a delay in their arrival due to shipping delays but they are on the way and we look forward to having them up in the not too distant future.
Our Sports Website is your first port of call for all information about whole school sport and inter-school sports events. This is updated regularly.
If you would like to purchase books for your children from the Scholastic Book Club, orders for 2021 issue no. 3 are now open.
The ordering process is completely paper-less, and the current brochure is available to view here.
If you are new to the Scholastic Book Club, you can find out more about the Book Club here and before placing an order, you will need to register using the LOOP website. You may then place your order via the Loop website, or by using one of Scholastic's apps. Please make sure you have your child's hub number handy and remember there is no need to return anything to school as all orders are processed online through the Scholastic LOOP system. If you would prefer to view the catalogue in paper form, your child may collect one of these from the school library, which is open during school lunchtimes.
Book Club orders close on Friday 21st May. If you have any questions or problems placing your order, please email Anna on anna.malan@stonefields.school.nz
In his presentation, Nathan provides an informative narrative on how our day-to-day interactions with children and young people, significantly the early years, plays a critical role in defining later outcomes for our children. In this talk, Nathan will guide you through the stages of brain development from the first 1000 days and into adulthood. He will reveal little tricks that will hopefully make parenting easier, and help you open up communication with your child. You will walk away with a much better understanding of how both your child’s brain and your own brain works.
