Add Hard Drives to available drive bays.
Depending on the model, the front cover may need to be wiggled away from the chassis to access the drive bays.
Connect the ethernet to the network or the USB port to a PC depending on the model
Connect the ac adapter to the NAS and plug in the power cord into an outlet
Power up the NAS and do a hard reset by pressing the "reset" button on the back of the device using a reset tool such as a paperclip
Open a web browser and go to https://find.synology.com and search for the NAS device
Wait for the NAS to appear and click Connect

Test the Drive Bays for issues by moving Drive 2 to the next drive bay and waiting for it to initialize. Wait for it to come up in the dashboard. This will test the drive bays to make sure each bay is working properly.
Perform this step for all drive bays.
