Testing Laptop
Ensure the laptop is cosmetically acceptable.
Make sure there is no writing, stickers, stains, etc. that cannot be easily cleaned/removed.
Check for severe cracks, dents, or other damage. If any are found the laptops need to be sent for recycling. Remove memory, hard drive, Wi-Fi card, and if possible, the processor for part resale.
If the laptop satisfies these conditions, it can be deemed cosmetically acceptable.
Check to see if the laptop comes with a battery attached. If not, see if you have a spare battery.
Make sure the brand of the battery matches the brand of the laptop or a compatible brand.
Some laptops can still be operable without a battery installed.
Locate an AC adapter for the laptop.
Match the brand of the adapter with the brand of the laptop and ensure the correct adapter for that specific laptop by looking at the manufacture label. Make sure the required voltage and amp can be met otherwise the laptop will not turn on if voltage and amp is too low or it will burn out if the voltage and amp are out of range.
If you cannot locate an AC adapter for the laptop, use the universal AC adapter. Make sure the correct input is installed and the required voltage is met before attempting to power out.
If the correct AC adapter is not found or the universal adapter does not work, research the laptop to ensure the laptop values more than 150.00 in sale price before ordering an AC adapter to attempt testing and repairing that laptop.
Ensure the laptop will power on and you can reach BIOS.
Press the power button and the laptop should power on. The button to access the BIOS varies depending on the motherboard. Many times, when you boot on the laptop it will tell you the proper key to press. Some common keys to access BIOS are:
F1 for Lenovo, IBM
F2 for Dell, ASUS, Samsung, Acer
ESC for HP
If the laptop will not power on or you cannot access the BIOS, the laptop should be recycled.
Ensure the laptop has an acceptable memory configuration. (RAM)
Laptop will not be able to boot without proper RAM installed.
4GB of RAM for a standard laptop in order to load an operating system. 2GB in each slot is the minimum configuration, but 512 mb is recommended for BIO boot.
Test the components and key function of the laptop. These include but not limited.
Hard Drive (if included, ensure data has been wiped)
RAM or Memory
LCD (check for burns, cracks, dead pixels, and imperfections)
Keyboard (make sure all keys are functional)
Batteries (if included, can be charged, and holds charge)
CPU
WI-FI Card (ensure you can connect to the internet)
AC adapter (if included powers on the laptop, and charges)
Take the laptop to the next step processing to be listed for eCommerce selling.
