Testing Server Instruction

Step 1: Visual inspect Server.

1. Inspect to see if the computer has all the key components.

1. Motherboard

2. Power Supply

3. RAM or Memory

4. CPU

Step 2: Connect LCD monitor, Keyboard, and mouse to the Server.

Step 3: Power on the Server. 

1. If the computer does not turn on, check to see if the power cord is plugged into a power source and power is being supplied. 

2. Check to see if the power supply power switch is switched on and the correct power setting is set. The U.S. uses 120v.

3. Check to ensure all power cables and wires are plugged in correctly.

Step 4: When attempting to power on the server and it does not turn on but gives an error beep troubleshoot by looking up error codes for that motherboard. Most of the time it’s just bad RAM or improper seating of the RAM. Remove the RAM, reseat them and try again. If errors persist, then remove RAM and install new working RAM.

Step 4: Access computer Bios (Basic Input Output System).

To access the BIOS, you must press one of the “F” keys (such as F1-F12), Esc, or Del buttons depending on the model of the motherboard after you hit the power button. These should be:

§ F1 for Lenovo, IBM

§ F2 for Dell, ASUS, Samsung, Acer

§ ESC for HP

Step 4: Review the stats and details on the main page of the BIOS.

Step 5: Press “Save” & “Exit.”

Step 6: If you cannot access the BIOS or turn on the computer.

Step 5: Turn off computer
