Goals
Assist the system colleges in understanding and employing new eLearning Trends
Expected Outcomes
1. Explore and evaluate MOOCS in the Community College.
2. Explore and evaluate gamification
3. Explore and evaluate other new trends using research based methods.
4. Leveraging & Advertising free (skill building) courses -aka MOOCs.
5. Mobile
6. Learning Analytics
7. Testing verification (accreditation)
8. Badging and credentialing of learning and competencies.
9. Social Learning, Personal Learning Networks.
10. Competency-based education.
11. Develop rubric for evaluating new trends and tools.
For all of these points, we will:
(a) Identify the colleges that are currently using or exploring the use of this.
(b) Develop definition of this based on feedback from the colleges.
(c) Gather data from the colleges that are currently using or exploring the use of this.
Timeline
Fall
Identify trends.
Create trend resource pages. Here is the trend resource page.
Winter
Develop questions for surveys that will identify the colleges that are currently using or exploring the use of each of the Ed Tech trend topics. Here is the survey.
Launch surveys. (Send out email to ELC listerv).
Spring
Encourage colleges to participate in survey.
Evaluate data from survey. Here are the survey results.
Add data and contact information from survey to resource page.

IC Workplan
Below are the IC workplan objectives that our workgroup work fits into.
2.2 - Our workgroup is exploring badges, social learning and competency-based education and this fits well with the work done with this objective.
3.1 - Our workgroup is exploring learning analytics, which are a key piece of evidence that drives institutional decision making.
3.2 - The use of innovative and effective ed tech can support and improve high quality eLearning for students.
3.3 - The effective use of innovative ed tech can be a characteristic of a "faculty of the future".
