2017-2018 Winner of the Connie Broughton Innovation in eLearning Award

ELC Award Winners:

Seattle Central College’s FLC team of faculty and instructional designers for their submission of

“Lightboard Studio by a Hybrid Instruction FLC”

Brief Description of Project:

During 2017-2018, a team of faculty and instructional designers from Seattle Central College participated in a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) on Hybrid Instruction by working together on a project of creating a studio for recording video lectures and presentation using lightboard technology. The Lightboard is a glass “chalkboard” pumped full of light. The presenter faces toward the viewers, and their writing glows in front of them. It offers an innovative video recording system with a lightboard, a camera, and a computer. The team presented their prototype at the Northwest eLearning Conference in Pasco, Washington, in October, 2017, and will present again at the 2018 Washington Annual Canvas Conference in Tacoma at the end of March. The ELC award application described the following core aspects related to using this technology for hybrid and online learning environments: innovative, accessible, diverse, responsive, engaging, collaborative, quality instructional delivery. The team shares, “A combination of innovative technology, effective pedagogical model, and a sense of instructor-to-student connection creates an engaging and inviting learning environment that demonstrates our excellence in education.”
