Music Notes, By: Ashley Sosis

Heinrich Schütz (pronunciation is somewhere between shuts and shirts, rhymes with soot, as in chimney soot) was a German composer and organist, regarded as the most important German composer before Johann Sebastian Bach. Though lesser known, he is commemorated on the Lutheran Calendar of Saints on the same day as Bach and George Frideric Handel. Our communion piece is a lovely setting of John 3:16, in German, sweet words in any language!
