Music Notes

By: Ashley Sosis

On November 8th, our 11am music selections had a Moravian theme and I included a Moravian hymn arranged for organ by Károly Köpe. Rather than the style, period or genre of the music, the readings pointed me to today’s organ meditation by the same composer. The text fits beautifully with each of today’s readings (Malachi tells of the coming of Jesus, who is like a refiner’s fire; Timothy entreats us to be pure and blameless for the day of the Lord’s coming; John the Baptist proclaims a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of Sins).

1. How shall I meet my Savior? 2. While with her sweetest flowers

How shall I truly welcome thee? thy waiting Zion strews thy way,

What manner of behavior I’ll raise with all my powers,

is by thy love required of me? Savior, to thee a grateful lay;

I wait for thy salvation; to thee, the King of glory,

grant me, O Lord, thy Spirit’s light; my heart will tune a song divine

and may my preparation and make thy love’s bright story

be well accepted in thy sight. through me in living witness shine.
