Burton-Swartz

[ sawmill community ] Burton-Swartz was located west of the town of Perry. The community was named after William Lafayette Burton and Edward G. Swartz who formed the Burton-Swartz Cypress Company of Florida in 1913.

The office building had marble columns, brass doors and 18 foot high ceilings. There were beautiful rose gardens, scrubs and trees as well as a goldfish pond, complete with spraying fountain in the center.

Burton-Swartz had company housing as a part of their mill and a regular community sprang up west of Perry. The citizens urged them to put their company store in downtown Perry and it was open to the public.
