Poppell's Still

Turpentine - Located in the Waylonzo area.

An article appeared in The Florida Historical Quarterly Vol. 74 No. 3 Published by: Florida Historical Society. Authored by Margaret N. Burkley. The article is entitled Andrew Dias Poppell, 1894-1955: A Taylor County Entrepreneur. Burkley talks about the life and accomplishments of Poppell. she goes on to say that Poppell seemed to be most interested in the naval stores business. She goes on to say that his camp was similar to other turpentine camps of the day: a collection of wooden buildings, consisting of a still, commissary, a blacksmith shop and cooperage shed, gluing shed, cup cleaning shed and quarters for the workers.

I am sure this book is in the Taylor County Historical Society collection.
