Adams Beach

[abandoned beach community] At one time, Adams Beach was a resort with beach houses and a pavilion. The storms of the past have taken their toll on Adams Beach and their is nothing left.

Early on this beach was called Jonesville Beach. Near the mouth of Blue Creek on the Gulf of Mexico. It was a center for salt works during the Civil War and afterwards. Taylor County's 50-mile coastline and shallow coastal waters made this ideal for manufacturing salt for the Confederacy. Trading on a barter basis, the region furnished salt for adjacent areas of, including Tallahassee and South Georgia, receiving in return meat, grain and other necessities.
