Barker Hammock

[community] Taylor County - A microcosm of frontier America, by Joe Akerman. In the article Mr. Akerman states that by 1855, settlements existed at Lake Bird, Shady Grove, Pisgah, Thomas Mill Island, Oakland, Barker Hammock, Blue Creek, Sunnyside and Carlton Springs.

Barker Hammock, some eight or nine miles northeast of Perry, located at or near where W. T. Wilder lived, was probably named for the three Barkers who lived in Taylor County prior to the Civil War - Daniel C., Moses and E. G. All are throght to have moved to Madison County later.
