Weaver-Loughridge Lumber Co.

WEAVER-LOUGHRIDGE LUMBER CO.

1909 - 1986

Established in 1909 by John H. Loughridge and Tom Weaver. Loughridge and Weaver who were brother-in-laws, had operated a sawmill in Silver Creek, Miss. prior to purchasing the mill at Boyd. The operations employed about 400 employees and furnished housing a commissary. The company gradually increased their holdings until they owned over 100,000 acres of choice timber land in this area. In the early 1960’s the company closed the sawmill operations and changed to tree farming. March 1986, Weaver-Loughridge Lumber Co. sold 98,000 acres of land to Buckeye Cellulose Corp.
