Bevan Creek in the southern part of the county was probably named for William J. Bevan, who once operated a fishery on the nearby coast. The story goes that William had moved from Madison County to the coast to pursue a better living, but he had three daughters of marrying age and there not being any suitable men available he abandoned this place and returned to Madison County to help his daughters find suitable partners for life. By the way they were all married in Madison County.
