I get a Hickman line inserted into a vein in my chest today, this is allows the doctors to give me my drugs (and take blood) without the need of needles (which will be good).
So they are going to give me a table to make me sleepy and wheel me off to get it done, I will be given a local anaesthetic and hopefully it will all be over in half an hour. They tell me that it should not hurt - I will get back to you on that one...
The worst bit is not being allowed to eat or drink for 6 hours, I go in at 4:30pm so that is nothing from 10:30!
Update: It was actually not that bad - it did not hurt all I felt was somebody poking about at my shoulder.
Update Next morning: Had the dressing changed and it feels a bit raw at the minute. I'm sure after a few days it will be fine...
