My consultant came round yesterday so I did actually get an update. It would appear that John (my brother) is not a bone marrow match, there was only a one in four chance he would be. That means I will not be getting a bone marrow transplant as part of my treatment because only a sibling transplant at this stage makes any potential difference to the long term survival from AML. It is disappointing but the odds of John being a donor were low, so I was not very surprised when the consultant told me.
My neutrophils are down to 0.7 which means I am neutopenic again. This means that the door is now closed and everybody has to put on rubber gloves and a plastic apron just to enter the room - even just to hand me a cup of tea. The room feels a lot quieter now with the door shut, I can’t listen in on peoples telephone calls any more…
Because the room is hot and the nurses need to get access to my Hickman line at least three or four times a day Isabel has been buying a load of new shirts. She has made a great choice of big patterns and some bright colours that certainly cheer me up and I know they cheer up the staff. This yellow shirt got me the title of Mr Holiday yesterday…
A couple of days ago Isabel came round after work, got changed out of her work clothes and we went down the restaurant for a coffee. When we were out some of the staff came in to make up my bed and saw a dress hanging up with the rest of my cloths. They were a bit worried it was mine… I don’t really have the legs for it…
… up to 6k on the exercise bike yesterday…
