This family almost certainly came from Trewen which is only 2 miles away
THOMAS POMERY Marriage date 17 Jan 1631 at TREWEN to Nazareth COLICOT (FMP) probably married in the bride's parish as was the custom;
However I COULD NOT FIND a Bb FOR HER IN CORNWALL or England - Alt: spelling Collacott. No idea where he came from -
I did find 1568 a daughter forename not given Bb 11 Feb 1558 to John Collquit at Golant St Sampson 35 years after that marriage - their unmarried daughter died .? 17th July 1667 buried in Trewen of Nazarina POMERY daughter of Thomas -
Thomas Pomery Buried 8 March 1673 at Trewen where he came from is anybody's guess -
Colicot & alternate names and or spellings might be Colquite Collacot or Collocott.
Nazareth Colicot - this may not be the name she was given as a child but a baptismal name chosen on conversion to the Baptist faith
There was Richard Pomery born in Trewen west of Launceston in abt 1690 ; He appears to have moved to Lewannick where he died on 17 Aug 1742; age 52. - exact location is unknown
515# family tree is under revision March 2025
John Pomery who may have been a blacksmith, and his wife Mary CLAST, were in Lewannick however I have not found ANY Clast family in Cornwall
There were CLISTS on Totnes; a George CLYST of Totnes was married there in 1694 and a Mary Clist dau of John was Bb in Culmstock in 1668; but both of these are too early . In Devon there are six Clist parishes, in the valley of the small river Clist, or Clyst suggesting there might be an old family.
There are CLIST families - I did find a family of 19th century Blacksmiths John Clist a blacksmith near Taunton, Somerset .
I found the marriage of John Pomery & his1st wife Elizabeth Williams in South Petherwin pre civil registration files
"Up to Civil Registration the Church was the only place where people, other than Quakers and Jews, were permitted in law to be married"
