Trewen (Cornish:Trewynn) is a hamlet and civil parish in East Cornwall. The parish is east of Bodmin Moor, in the River Inny Valley, five miles west of Launceston and is surrounded by the parishes of Egloskerry, St Thomas–by–Launceston, South Petherwin, Altarnun and Laneast.
Trewen is in the registration district of Launceston.
The earliest Pomeroy record for Trewen is a wedding.
THOMAS POMERY married to Nazareth COLICOT on 17 Jan 1631 at TREWEN (FMP) probably married in the bride's parish as was the custom;
However I COULD NOT FIND a Bb FOR HER IN CORNWALL or England - Alt: spelling Collacott or Colquite.
There is also William POMERY married Mary COLQUITE 18 Oct 1629 at Fowey 21 miles from Trewen. Mary was born in 1609 to Richard Colquite in Fowey;
In 1667 the Nazarina POMERY, the 36 year old unmarried daughter of Thomas, died & was buried in Trewen on
17th July 1667 .
Thomas Pomery died in Trewen & was buried 8 March 1673
Vivian of Trewen and Trenowith
the Historical Survey of the County of Cornwall, refers to the Vivians of Trenowith and Trewan.
In the 'History Of Cornwall', by Joseph Polsue, it states that Trewan House, built by John Vivian 1633, probably a grandson of John, stands a short distance from Trenoweth, now Trenowth Farm.
Trewan House is described as 'seated on the brow of a hill facing south, and sheltered by plantations. Its elevated position above St. Columb town commands an uninterrupted view of a fine picturesque scenery of hill and valley'. It also says that Trenowth (or Trenowith), and Trewan are two seats held by the Vyvyan family. [11] [12]

Trewen
The Curate Ralph Honey died & was buried in the Trewen churchyard on 28th of May 1596. His successor James Tredennecke arrived serve as the Curate of the Chapel of Trewenne". Between 1539 and 1681 Trewen was a Parochial Chapel of South Petherwin but at this date became a joint Church.
After this the Priest-in-charge often lived outside the Parish, one lived in Launceston. Services were held every fortnight and in 1710 there were four yearly communions with 20 communicants. By 1745 the population had increased to 17 families but the communicants had not.
Trewen always seemed to take the easier course if there was religious strife.
There is a certificate of 1641 preserved in the House of Lords revealing that the "clergy, churchwardens, overseers and constables of Trewen did as the Houses bade them" concerning their "declared attachment for the reformed religion and to the rights and liberties of the subject". They did not want problems with the Cromwellians, but, if the old religion still existed, they would have been indifferent to the established Church. As it still seems to be pursued by unknown individuals now it would not be surprising.
In 1775 a small school was established at Trewen with a teacher's salary of £2.0.0 per annum. The Chapel would have provided a schoolroom, and the Priest was the only inhabitant who would have had the education to teach the children. Certainly he would have appreciated the addition to his stipend.
