This skill will require you to induce and maintain general anesthesia using inhalant anesthetics. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to induce general anesthesia, perform all steps of endotracheal intubation, and understand and operate anesthetic machines.
Tips for materials that need to be submitted:
Video of student placing an endotracheal tube
Include all steps, here are some commonly left out steps. Make sure these are included in your video.
Selecting the correct size tube
Measuring it, so you know how far to insert in into the trachea
Use a laryngoscope
Lubricating the end of the endotracheal tube
Inserting the tube and securing it to the patients maxilla
Check for proper placement
Properly inflate the endotracheal tube cuff
This is not simply filling the cuff with air until the balloon feels firm. If you are not sure how to do this please refer back to your anesthesia textbook.
