This skill will require you to recognize and respond to veterinary medical emergencies. Upon completion of this skill, you be able to recognize medical emergency situations both within the clinical setting and over the telephone while speaking to clients. After recognizing the emergency situation, you will then be able to evaluate the situation, respond, and administer emergency procedures according to clinic protocols.
Tips for materials required for submission:
Detailed description of the clinical signs of shock, respiratory distress, poisoning, and trauma.
Discussion for all four areas of criteria is required.
When discussing shock, discuss the various types of shock and the associated signs of early and late stages of shock.
Discuss clinical signs associated with respiratory distress including causes associated with them.
The signs of poisoning can vary depending on the type of poison that the animal has come into contact with. This is why we want you to choose one specific poisoning that is more commonly seen in your area, and discuss in depth the specific signs for that poisoning.
The same also applies to trauma. Pick one type of trauma more commonly seen in your area and discuss the specific clinical signs seen for the trauma you have chosen.
Provide detailed information as to why these clinical signs might be observed for all four areas of required criteria. You will need to demonstrate that you can recognize the signs, as well as demonstrate your knowledge of what is happening within the body that results in the clinical observations.
