This skill will require you to perform venipuncture or blood sampling from the cephalic, jugular, lateral saphenous, and medial saphenous veins on dogs and/or cats. Upon completion of this skill, you will be competent in performing venipuncture using a needle with syringe and/ or Vacutainer methods.
Tips for materials required for submission:
Make sure that blood can be seen in the syringe in the video while you are drawing the blood for each of the procedures/ techniques.
Make sure you show all steps from site prep to successfully obtaining a blood sample, as well as applying pressure to the site afterwards to prevent bleeding.
Appropriate positioning and restraint should be used. You can have an assistant restrain for you.
Palpate the vein before you prep the site. Once you prep the site do not palpate the vein. If you do, you have contaminated the site.
We need to see you in the video to verify that you are the one performing the skill, as well as to verify that you have the assistant using the proper restraint technique. You will also need to provide a closer up view so we can see that you are successfully obtaining a sample.
You will need to submit digital videos of you successfully performing each of the following procedures:
Feline cephalic venipuncture
Canine cephalic venipuncture
Feline jugular venipuncture
Canine jugular venipuncture
Canine lateral saphenous venipuncture
Feline medial saphenous venipuncture
