This skill will require you to collect and prepare samples to test for external parasites and cytology, you will also need to identify different types of external parasites. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to collect and prepare samples of external parasites using a number of techniques and identify various external parasites on both large and small animal patients.
Tips for materials that need to be submitted:
Logbook of procedures performed
There should be a total of eight. You have to perform each of the four procedures two times
You need to include the description of the procedure. You only need to do this once for each procedure
You need to include patient information (signalment)
You need to include the results for each test
Make sure you use the proper genus and species
Quantify what you see
You should try to pick patients that will have a positive result on at least one of the tests. It is hard to determine if you can identify a parasite if you did not see any. If you do not see any you need to discuss what type of parasites the test is commonly used to look for and how they are identified under the microscope.
