This skill will require you to be familiar with all laboratory equipment, its maintenance and perform quality control procedures. You will also need to explain basic principles of laboratory safety, be aware of OSHA concerns and MSDS information. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to demonstrate familiarity with all available laboratory equipment, maintain lab equipment, perform quality control procedures, and explain basic principles of lab safety.
Tips for materials that need to be submitted:
Logbook with detailed description of lab equipment in clinic and the maintenance and calibration procedures for each
Describe every piece you have in your laboratory, including equipment like the microscope, refractometer, centrifuge, etc.
Describe in detail:
What they are
What they do
How you use them
How you maintain them
How you calibrate them
How often they are maintained
If an external company maintains them you are still responsible to know what exactly is done during the maintenance
Written explanation of lab safety policies in place at the clinic
These should be OSHA standards
Include in detail the lab safety procedures
What protocol and policies are in place so that OSHA requirements are met
What OSHA policies are in place
Who trains
How often
Where and how is the training documented
Explain the MSDS information
You also need to include where the MSDS is kept
