This skill will require you to restrain cattle, assist with moving patients into a cattle chute, and apply a bovine halter. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how large animal restraint devices work, show competency in applying a bovine halter, and be able to restrain bovine patients through the use of tail restraint.
Tips for materials required for submission:
Video of student applying bovine halter and performing tail restraint
The most common method of tail restraint is the tail jack method
When performing tail restraint stand behind the cow but off to the side so you do not get kicked
Grab the tail close to the base, use both hands
Lift the tail dorsally, applying even pressure
You need to tell us what method of tail restraint you are using if you are doing something different than the tail jack method

Familiarize yourself with the operation of the chute before using it
Make sure the area in front of the chute is open and clear if it isn't your patient might be reluctant to move forward
