The skill will require you to apply and remove bandages and splints. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to apply and remove a Robert Jones bandage, fit patients with splints, and incorporate splints into casts and bandages.
Tips for materials required for submission:
You will need to submit a video of you applying either a Robert Jones bandage or a Modified Robert Jones bandage to a canine or feline patient.
Make sure that the patient is appropriately sized so that you can demonstrate application of each layer.
The video should include you applying each layer of the bandage from start to finish.. (Refer to the criteria listed on the skill sheet).
Only two or three digits should be left out of the bandage. This means that the whole foot should not be in the bandage. It also means that the entire paw should not be left out of the bandage. A few digits are left out to allow you to check for warmth and swelling.
You need to apply the bandage to the full limb
You need to start distally on the limb and move proximally with the wrapping.
The padding should overlap by 50%.
You should not have any wrinkles or folds in the layers. This can be uncomfortable for the pet and cause sores. Imagine how uncomfortable it is when your sock is bunched in your shoe!
Make sure you indicate the type of bandage you are applying. (RJ or MRJ)
