This skill will require you to restrain avian patients. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to restrain avian patients for wing venipuncture and oral dosing. You will also be able to position avian patients for radiographic procedures.
Tips for materials that need to be submitted:
Video(s) of student performing restraint procedures. There are two different procedures:
Wing venipuncture
You only have to perform the restraint, you are not required to perform venipuncture
Oral dosing
You do not have to perform oral dosing, you just need to restrain the bird for it
Video of student positioning avian patients for radiography
You can use a model, however it needs to be a bird. You cannot use a stuffed bear as a model. Keep in mind you need to maneuver this model into the correct position, so choose appropriately
You need to demonstrate taping the patient in two different positions (Lateral and VD)
You need to be wearing proper PPE in your video. Even though you are not taking an actual radiograph, you need to demonstrate you know what PPE is required for the procedure
Accepted Levels of Sedation:
Awake or sedated
