This skill will require you to monitor anesthetic recovery and provide postoperative care and pain management. Upon completion of this skill, you will be able to extubate and properly monitor a patient recovering from general anesthesia and provide post operative care. You will also be able to assess and recognize pain and administer prescribed pain management.
Tips for materials that need to be submitted:
Log book showing parameters monitored during recovery for two patients
You need to include pain assessment in your monitoring.
You should use some sort of a pain scale, like the Colorado State Pain scale
If you do not use one you need to explain the parameters you are monitoring and how they would indicate the patient is in pain
You need to show how you are determining the level of pain the patient is in
If your site has its own pain scale it uses include a copy of it
Do not just monitor the patient once, you should be monitoring the patient several times until it is discharged
Do not just state the parameters you monitored, include the results
Copy of patient records showing administration of pain management medications
The record should indicate when the drug was administered, the dose, and route it was given
