Profile by Tim Muttukumaru
The reigning Batsman of the Season (the award was not handed out in 2011) was schooled in southeast London, is of Malayan stock and went to Cambridge. Not the only one in the team of course, but this one knows how to play offside shots and has the appearance of being a cultured opening batsman of no little skill.
Of course skill counts for very little at times and Tim endured a tough start to the 2009 season after a promising debut in 2008 (cruelly cut short by Judas Azarmgin, who, not satisfied with fielding for the opposition, also chose to award them umpiring decisions).
That said, Tim has brought home a stack of runs on both of the past 2 seasons, at an impressive rate and at a good average. With a solid defensive technique and a wide range of attacking strokes, he has all the tools to succeed for Not the MCC. This was exemplified by Innings of the Season 2009, a superb 81 against the London Itinerants.
In the bowling department, Tim is the team's only genuine leg spinner (after the sad departure of Barath Obama). Like most bowlers of his type though, he bowls the occasional tonkable delivery that is dispatched into the proverbial next week.
Tim is also becoming known for his off-field antics. He produced some superb gourmet teas during the course of Summer 2009 and we shall be begging for a repeat performance in 2012.
