Profile by Tim Muttukumaru
Edward "Teddy" Whiting is a force to be reckoned with in all forms of the game. Having come up through the ranks at Headingley, Teddy was cruelly discarded by Yorkshire U12s for being too tall (though 6'10 at the age of 5 was unusual).
His chequered career since then paints a picture of a brilliant but combustible character. One thing which all readers should know is that when Teddy gets the Rage, he is a man to be feared. At 6'4, he sends down a mean bouncer and many a batsman has been retired hurt by this vicious animal of a medium pacer.
Occasionally good-natured, Teddy has been known to deploy the odd line-and-length delivery, but this is strictly at his own discretion and no one should tell him that line-and-length is in any way a good thing.
Teddy's batting operates on a simple basis. The ball must be hit through the mid-off region at a minimum velocity of 4 parsecs/second. Anything less than this is regarded as a dismal failure and may result in an outbreak of the aforementioned Rage.
The most consistent part of Ed's game is his fielding. Teddy has a truly intergalactic quality throw and so long as he's deployed far enough from the bat, he is able to utilise this to good effect. Few will forget his magnificent one-handed catch (regrettably, off Jobbers' bowling...) in the 2007 NTMCC v Christ's match.
