Player Profile: Arash Mostofi

Profile by Tim Muttukumaru

Smooth, suave, sophisticated. And that's just his little brother. Az is not just a gentleman of the highest order, he is a Christ's College institution. Playing for College for what must have been a record number of successive seasons, Arash amassed countless runs and wickets for College.

Now based at Imperial College, London, Az has joined Not the MCC to considerable effect. Battling with James Williams for the off-spinning all rounder berth, it would be a foolish captain who went into a match without both. Dr Mostofi has a mesmeric control of line, length and spin that has bamboozled many a batsman. This was most clearly in evidence during his devastating spell of 4-29 against Crowhurst in May 2009. His economy rate bears testimony to the fact that very few batsmen can get on top of him.

Az is gradually rediscovering his batting touch after a long period away from the game. Back in the day, Az was a skilled top order batsman with a sound temperament. We are expecting big things for Az's batting in the 2010 season once he has a full pre-season behind him.

In the field, Az is very quick across the ground and can be trusted to patrol the leg side of the wicket while the other 8 fielders encircle the batsman on the offside (only usually deployed when Beacham is on fire).
