Player Profile: Sean Farrington

Profile by Hamer Boot

Young Sean was a late-comer to the cricketing world. A mis-spent youth saw him hone his snooker skills to a level that matched Tom O'Grady and made him a consistent first pick when it came to yard football at Wolverhampton Grammar School, however cricket was only discovered in the Black Country during the 2005 Ashes Series. By this time Farrington had fled for the greener pastures of Christ's College after a most unfortunate incident at the hands of 27-30,000 Charlton fans.

His ego battered and his love for football shattered, he vowed never to mention the name Steve Bull again, or for that matter watch Dumbo. The loss for the Gold Army was cricket's gain as Faz discovered an uncanny ability to put a cricket ball on a line and length. Fitting in to the Christ's bowling line-up somewhere after Demon (who at that stage of his career was being favourably compared with the Rawalpindi Express) and before the wicket-taking "spinners" Seed and Dolphin, Farrington bowled economical medium pace that would have made Ian Austin proud and picked up wickets to boot. Cricket fans everywhere (although particularly OC Malcolm) look forward to seeing The Jester in action in the 2009 season, following rumours that he has shed half of his body weight during the winter break (n.b. similar rumours about Leon Clarke proved untrue). He has promised that 10 over spells, without pork pie breaks, will be the norm.

On the batting front, Farrington's career peaked along with Boot's in the cider-fuelled frenzy against Jesus (ahem) II. Farrington was dispatching boundaries with all of the power and accuracy of Sylvain Ebanks-Blake, when Boot became possessed by the spirit of his most beloved countyman and mercilessly ran him out. This correspondent can't remember whether his batting has since recovered but having (illegally) graced the field in Mumbai with the England cricket team, good times surely beckon.
